Do you think that the author implied that Peyton was a christian because of how his hallucinations were almost like heaven? I mean he was healed and he got to see his wife. And if you didn't think this, did you think this represented anything else?
"As Peyton Fahrquhar fell straight downward through the bridge he lost consciousness and was as one already dead." I believe this quote to be the most important in the story because it's stated right before the explanations of everything that Peyton sees. Everything seems so real to not only Peyton, but also the reader. The nature he sees creates a perfect image in our minds. The trees are lush and the water is crisp. He's hallucinating something that is almost like heaven. He's safe and where he wants to be. Right before he embraced his wife, reality hit and he felt a blow to his back. His mind went black. I wonder if the reason why he saw his wife but not his kids in his hallucination is because his wife is dead.
Interesting thoughts Summer, I personally don't think its heaven but it also could be. Now that I think about it more it seems more plausible. Because the only other idea that I have for the hallucination is that it was all Peyton's greatest wishes he had before his death. Because don't your greatest wishes or fears usually appear in your dreams or hallucinations.
ReplyDeleteI accidently used Isaac's again =)
DeleteGood observations, Summer. Yeah, I had the feeling that the author possibly tried to portray that Peyton was a partial christian. I agree with you Alyssa, whatever you want to do before you die usually comes to you in dreams or visions. It does say that his hallucination SEEMED LIKE heaven, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it was heaven. Good question though.
ReplyDeleteHmm.. you could definitely be right Summer! However, I do think that (as Alyssa and Dylan said) it was only his imagination as he dreamed of all the beautiful things he would miss on earth. It is possible though, because as a Christian, you wouldn't long to stay on earth as much as you would want to go to heaven, especially in such a painful moment.
ReplyDeleteThat is true. I never thought about that way.
